Fucking Russian Haxx0rs

So I've had to reinstall the forum. Again.

What I did is install a new copy of SMF, and pointed it to the DB we already had. Works fine, some things are weird but nothing I can't handle. I haven't uploaded any themes yet, but see this as an opportunity to suggest new ones. Other cool features - I'm game.

I'm keeping the zip file for the SMF install in my root directory now, having to find the fucking thing every time is tiresome.

Bitches were uploading their spam into my fucking web space.

Strangers in Vent

It turns out that apparently, a bunch of Turkish guys were using the same IP:port configuration as us for vent until recently.

What I assume happened is that the guy paying for that Vent let it expire and ours was installed with the same open port. Since I'm not exactly pleased with having strangers on the Vent I pay for for GmodSauce, I've added an MOTD that states that non GmodSauce members can be kicked/banned by Vent admins.

Since Smithy is almost always on Vent, I've made him an admin to help out with this.

I bought us a little present...

I took a look at Branzone's Ventrilo options and found them to be incredibly inexpensive.

Because I missed it and I hope it will bring us together to play games a bit more often, I decided to get us a 15-slot Ventrilo server and put it on a quarterly billing cycle. Even paying for three months at a time, it costs only $12,80. That and Branzone has provided me with top-quality service on this site, so I'm brand-loyal.

Anyway, the Vent server is running at voice-uk1.branzone.com:3785 - as you can see to the right, where I used the IP adress as opposed to the hostname: voice-uk1.branzone.com refers to 78.129.197.213 - anyway. Go hang out in Vent ;D

A few elaborations on the exploit in the previous SMF

Since some of you might be concerned, here's what happened to the best of my knowledge.

Whenever you opened a gmodsauce.com page, if your security software was up to the job, you'd get a warning and some content would be blocked. This was because some tool had managed to inject some code somewhere, whether it was via an addon that I installed or more sinister methods I can't tell. What this did was try and run a script - but it was cleverly disguised so that the browser would only try and run it when the browser parsed the page. Just looking at the page source revealed nothing.

Because I was uncertain where this exploit was, and I needed a good excuse to switch to SMF2 anyway, I decided to nuke the old forum. It's still there if you want to take a look - perhaps I can find a way to lock it so all you can do is look - that'll make it a nice little archive.

Alternatively, I can just delete it.

The new GmodSauce is live!

Ok, we've upgraded to SMF2.0 RC3. Or at least, I have, and you don't have a choice.  ;D

I have not transferred the database - this is a clean slate. Signing up is easy and quick and I've set it up so bots are too stupid to register, and if you're a human you can register and get posting within minutes, depending on how fast your email server is.

There are multiple themes, you can choose among them from the profile menu. I'm still busy tinkering with the details, so expect to see a few changes here and there every now and again as I tweak stuff.

Oh and don't hesitate to suggest addons and such.

Oh, and GI-Max is a fag.  :o
